In-Company Training – When Is the Trainer Qualification Exam Required?

When do you need AEVO exam? Almost always, if you want to train an apprentice officially under § 28 BBiG.

Who can train apprentices?

1. Recognized training profession (e.g., sales clerk, hairdresser, retail clerk).

2. Company must be authorized (tasks, equipment, supervision).

3. Trainer must:

   • Hold AEVO certificate (AdA-Schein), or

   • Hold Meister title (exempt).

When not required?

• If another AEVO-certified person is responsible.

• If you are a Meister in a craft.

AEVO exam:

• Official name: Ausbildereignungsprüfung nach AEVO

• Organized by: IHK or HWK

• Content: Planning – Preparation – Execution – Completion

• Exam: written (MCQ) + practical (presentation + interview)

• Duration: 3–5 weeks prep course

• Cost: €450–750

• Result: AdA-Schein, valid for life
