Schulpraktikum Evaluation: How to Write a Report That Impresses the Teacher and Supervisor

First: The ideal report structure

A Schulpraktikum report usually consists of 5 main parts:

1. Cover page (Deckblatt)
Includes:

• Title: “Bericht über mein Schülerpraktikum”

• Full name

• Class and school

• Internship period (von … bis …)

• Name of the internship place (company or institution)

• Submission date

2. Introduction (Einleitung)
5–7 lines
Explain:

• Why did you choose this internship?

• What did you expect?

• What was your goal from the experience?

Example:
Ich habe mich für ein Praktikum in einer Apotheke entschieden, weil ich mich sehr für Gesundheit und Medizin interessiere. Ich wollte wissen, wie der Alltag in einer Apotheke aussieht und welche Aufgaben dort wichtig sind.

3. Description of the internship place (Beschreibung der Praktikumsstelle)
Half a page
Explain:

• What type of company or institution is it?

• How many employees are there?

• What departments exist?

• What services does it offer?

Example:
Die Apotheke XY befindet sich im Stadtzentrum von Schleswig und beschäftigt 7 Mitarbeitende. Es gibt einen Verkaufsbereich, ein Lager und ein Büro für die Verwaltung.

4. Daily activities description (Tätigkeitsbeschreibung)
1 to 2 pages
Write a table or a paragraph for each day including:

• What did you do in detail?

• What did you learn from each task?

• Were there tasks that were fun or difficult?

Example:
Am ersten Tag durfte ich bei der Warenannahme helfen. Ich habe gelernt, wie Medikamente kontrolliert und einsortiert werden. Besonders spannend war, die verschiedenen Medikamente kennenzulernen.

5. Personal reflection (Reflexion / Fazit)
The most important part of the report!
Answer the following questions:

• What did you learn about work and professional life?

• Which skills did you develop?

• Did your view of this profession change?

• Would you recommend this internship to others? Why?

• Do you think about repeating the experience?

Example:
Durch das Praktikum habe ich gemerkt, wie wichtig Teamarbeit und Sorgfalt im Berufsleben sind. Ich habe gelernt, höflich mit Kunden umzugehen und Verantwortung zu übernehmen. Das Praktikum hat mir Spaß gemacht und ich könnte mir vorstellen, später in diesem Bereich zu arbeiten.

• Avoid repetition
