The AusbildungPlus programme

The AusbildungPlus programme is one of the innovative models in the German vocational education system. It combines dual vocational training (Duale Ausbildung) with obtaining the Fachabitur (i.e. the Fachhochschulreife – the qualification required for admission to universities of applied sciences).

What is AusbildungPlus?

It is an extended dual programme that allows students to combine:

  • Ausbildung:
Practical vocational training within a company + theoretical lessons at a Berufsschule (vocational school)

  • Fachabitur:
Additional courses in order to obtain the Fachhochschulreife

This means that, upon completion, the trainee graduates with:

  • a recognized vocational qualification

  • an educational certificate that entitles them to study at universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen)

What is the Fachabitur (Fachhochschulreife)?

The Fachabitur / Fachhochschulreife is a certificate that enables you to:

  • enter universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen)

  • enroll at some traditional universities under specific conditions

  • access further education programmes (such as Fachwirt, Meister, etc.)
