European security anxieties, the ongoing war in Ukraine, and mounting U.S. pressure dominated the opening day of the Munich Security Conference. Leaders stressed the need to strengthen defense capabilities and reassess Europe’s security architecture.
The conference opened Friday with participation from more than 60 heads of state and government and about 100 defense and foreign ministers. The MSC remains one of the world’s leading forums on security policy.
This year’s edition comes at what many describe as one of the most turbulent periods since the end of the Cold War, with rising armed conflicts, erosion of international norms, and renewed questions about the future of alliances and the role of major powers.
