A court in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, sentenced a 37-year-old Syrian refugee to life imprisonment after convicting him of murdering his 31-year-old wife in June 2025. The attack took place in front of their four children.
According to the case details, the man blocked the living room door with a table late at night before stabbing his wife repeatedly with a kitchen knife. Their eldest daughter, aged 13, tried to intervene but failed. The mother died after receiving 15 stab wounds.
During the trial, the defendant remained silent. The court relied on witness testimonies, including that of the daughter, as well as forensic reports. Judges described the motive as “despicable” and confirmed the man’s full criminal responsibility.
Investigations revealed that the victim had previously suffered repeated abuse from her husband. The family had fled Syria in 2015 and settled in Germany.
The four children were placed in the care of relatives by the youth welfare office. The life sentence is now legally binding and immediately enforceable.
