Human Rights Watch Warns of Rising Hostility Toward Migrants in Germany

Publication date: 2026-02-05

Human Rights Watch has warned in its annual report from Berlin of growing hostility toward migrants and their children in Germany.

The report noted that the anti-migrant rhetoric promoted by the far-right AfD party is increasingly being adopted by other democratic parties.

Researcher Almaz Tefera stressed that it is harmful to portray people with migrant backgrounds as a general problem, even if later “hard-working migrants” are excluded from this narrative.

The report also painted a bleak picture of the global human rights situation, warning of democratic backsliding in several countries.
