German Media: “We Will Not Accept Being Told How to Live Our Faith” – Debate Over Religious Hardliners Pressuring Muslim Women Online

Publication date: 2026-02-02

German media have raised concerns about growing pressure from radical religious influencers on platforms such as TikTok and YouTube, targeting young Muslim women with strict interpretations of faith.

Influencer Mariam, followed by around 800,000 people, faced massive attacks after removing her hijab in summer 2024. She received threats, and her home address was published. Her mother Marziyeh, also an influencer, was similarly targeted.

One of the most prominent figures is Abdul Hamid, with over 530,000 followers on TikTok. He promotes conservative views on women’s dress and behavior. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution in North Rhine-Westphalia has identified him as one of the most influential Salafist actors in Germany.

Media outlets stressed that society must reject attempts by extremists to dictate how people practice their faith, highlighting the need to protect freedom of belief and personal choice.
