CSU Pushes for Regular Deportations of Syrians and Afghans

The Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU), sister party of the CDU led by Chancellor Merz, has called for stricter migration policies, including large-scale deportations of Syrian and Afghan refugees.

In a position paper drafted during a meeting at Kloster Seeon in Bavaria, the CSU stated that most Syrians with temporary residence permits lose their protection status after the end of the civil war, and those unwilling to leave voluntarily should be deported as soon as possible through regular flights to Syria and Afghanistan.

The paper also proposed establishing nationwide departure centers and a special deportation hall at Munich Airport.

Regarding Ukrainian refugees, the CSU suggested a tougher approach, insisting that men capable of fighting should contribute to defending their homeland, though no implementation details were provided.

The party also aims to tighten measures against what it calls “foreign enemies of democracy.” Public calls for an “Islamic State” or “Caliphate” should be criminalized, while demands to abolish the democratic system or committing antisemitic crimes should lead to mandatory deportation, denial of residence permits, and, in cases of dual nationality, revocation of German citizenship.

Additionally, the CSU stressed the need to curb abuse of Germany’s social system, criticizing current EU rules that grant freedom of movement rights with only 5.5 hours of weekly work. CSU parliamentary leader Alexander Hoffmann told Merkur newspaper: “Labor migration to Germany must not turn into poverty migration.”
