Left Party Demands Full Funding of East German Special Pensions by Federal Government

The Left Party in Germany has demanded that the federal government cover the full costs of the special pensions that were paid in East Germany. In the German Democratic Republic (GDR), certain professional groups received additional retirement benefits that are still relevant today. Until now, the financial burden for these pensions has been shared between the federal government and the eastern states. The Left Party now seeks to change this arrangement to ensure that the responsibility for these pensions lies entirely with the federal government.
