A Berlin court sentenced Syrian refugee Wasim Al. to 13 years in prison on Thursday (March 5, 2026) for stabbing a Spanish tourist at the Holocaust Memorial in February 2025.

  • Federal prosecutors classified the crime as Islamist and antisemitic, citing links to ISIS.

  • Charges included attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, and attempted membership in a terrorist organization abroad.

  • Prosecutors demanded life imprisonment, while the defense argued he was a minor at the time (19 years old).

  • The convict, now 20 years old, is a recognized refugee living in a shelter in Leipzig.
