According to the German magazine Focus, the cost of smuggling migrants into Germany has sharply increased in recent years due to stricter border controls.
Federal Police reported that the number of illegal entries dropped to around 62,958 cases last year, a noticeable decline compared to the previous year. Authorities attribute this to intensified inspections and surveillance.
At the same time, smuggling networks have raised their prices by up to 50 percent over the past two years. Migrants from Iraq currently pay between €12,000 and €15,000 to smugglers, reflecting the growing difficulty and danger of crossing routes.
Sea journeys from Libya to Europe are particularly risky, with costs ranging between €5,000 and €10,000.
