European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has reaffirmed her commitment to her role following media reports suggesting she might step down early.
According to Reuters, citing four sources, Lagarde sent a message to colleagues stating she remains focused on her work and that they would be the first to know if she ever decided to resign – not the press.
The Financial Times had reported that Lagarde was considering leaving her post before next year’s French presidential election, giving President Emmanuel Macron a role in choosing her successor.
Recipients of her message interpreted it as a clear indication that Lagarde does not intend to leave the ECB at present, though she did not entirely rule out the possibility in the future.
