In a joint statement issued at the Munich Security Conference, the UK, Sweden, France, Germany, and the Netherlands accused Russian authorities of responsibility for the death of opposition figure Alexei Navalny.
The five nations said laboratory tests on samples from his body confirmed he was poisoned with the lethal substance “Eipatidin.”
This toxin is linked to South American poison dart frogs and does not naturally occur in Russia, reinforcing their conclusion that Navalny was killed while in Russian custody.
The statement added that Moscow’s repeated disregard for international law and obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention was evident, stressing that Russia must be held accountable for its violations, including those under chemical, biological, and toxic weapons treaties.
