Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stated at the Munich Security Conference that the United States should reconsider its policy of unconditional support for Israel.
She accused President Donald Trump’s administration of pushing the world into an authoritarian era.
Ocasio-Cortez argued that unconditional backing regardless of a partner’s actions is illogical, stressing that conditional support is more appropriate.
US Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker avoided a direct answer, saying only that Israel is one of America’s closest allies.
She further accused the Trump administration of abandoning the US’s traditional global leadership role and ceding influence in Europe to Russia.
Ocasio-Cortez warned of a world order where authoritarian leaders carve out their own spheres of influence.
Despite these shifts, she emphasized that most Americans remain committed to a rules-based system and to democracy.
