Deutsche Welle: Alarming Figures – 50,000 Firearms Missing in Germany

Germany’s Interior Ministry reported that by the end of 2025, nearly 50,000 privately owned firearms were registered as missing or stolen, almost double the number recorded in 2018. About four-fifths are listed as missing, while the rest are stolen. Police unions warn that “unscrupulous criminals” are exploiting these gaps.
