German Catholic Bishop Bertram Meier recently visited communities in Syria to assess the situation of Christian minorities amid ongoing conflict and social hardship.
During his visit, Meier stressed that Syria “must not become a land without Christians,” highlighting the importance of supporting and protecting these communities, which have deep historical roots in the region.
He noted that Christian minorities continue to feel threatened by violence and face economic and security challenges that jeopardize their ability to remain in the country. Meier said his trip was undertaken “with many questions and in a spirit of solidarity,” aiming to understand the reality on the ground and express international support.
