German authorities have revealed new details about a planned attack on the Christmas market in Dingolfing-Landau, Bavaria.
Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said three suspects had intended to work in Germany as professional truck drivers, raising concerns among security agencies after information suggested a possible vehicle-based attack.
The three men, Moroccan nationals aged 22, 28, and 30, entered Germany on visas for vocational training. They were deported in January to their home country and banned from re-entering Germany, the EU, and the Schengen area for an extended period.
The main suspect, a 56-year-old Egyptian, was identified by investigators as the instigator of the plot. His arrest warrant was suspended in January under strict judicial conditions. He has lived in Germany since 1995 and obtained permanent residency in 2002.
Herrmann noted that ongoing investigations will be decisive in determining any further legal measures against him under German law.
