The Syrian government inaugurated a new general consulate in Bonn, Germany, on Thursday, aiming to expand consular representation and provide easier access to services for Syrians living in Germany.

According to the German magazine Focus, Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Sheibani attended the opening ceremony. The new consulate is expected to ease the workload of the Syrian embassy in Berlin, which handles a large number of applications.

The Bonn consulate will provide standard consular services, including issuing passports, official documents, and processing various applications, particularly for residents of North Rhine-Westphalia, home to one of the largest Syrian communities in Germany.

Estimates suggest that around 288,000 Syrians reside in this state.
