Publication date: 2026-02-12

Police in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, launched a major security operation on Thursday after reports of a person possibly carrying a weapon inside a vocational school.

A large number of officers surrounded the school on Hans-Böckler-Ring street, and emergency protocols were activated inside the building.

School management kept students inside classrooms and closed halls to ensure safety. Parents were informed in an official message that their children were “not currently in danger” and that the measures were precautionary.

Police said searches are still ongoing, with no suspects found so far and no confirmation of an armed individual inside the school.

Authorities began gradually escorting students out of the building under police protection. The school urged parents not to come to the site to avoid obstructing security operations.
