Germany experienced significant air travel disruptions on Thursday as Lufthansa pilots and cabin crew unions, along with staff at Hamburg Airport, went on strike.
The pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit demanded higher employer contributions to pension funds, while the UFO union called for improved working conditions and collective agreements for cabin crew.
The strike resulted in widespread cancellations and delays, particularly on connections to Frankfurt and Munich. Many flights were either canceled or rescheduled. Hamburg Airport confirmed that all Lufthansa flights from the airport were affected.
Lufthansa advised passengers to check their bookings via its website or official app, offering rebooking and compensation options. For domestic travel, passengers can use Deutsche Bahn trains free of charge as an alternative.
