Publication date: 2026-02-11

Tourism in Germany reached a historic peak last year, driven mainly by domestic travel and a surge in camping.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, total overnight stays in accommodation facilities with at least ten beds exceeded 497 million, marking a 0.3% increase compared to the previous record year of 2024.

Camping sites recorded a notable rise of 4.2% in overnight stays, while hotels saw a slight decline of 0.4%.

Holiday travel at the end of the year also contributed significantly, with December alone adding 32 million overnight stays – a 3.6% increase compared to the same month in the previous year.
