Copper Cable Theft at Solar Plant in Germany Causes Tens of Thousands in Losses

Local media reported that unknown perpetrators stole copper cables from a solar power station near Kassel (Kassel) in the German state of Hessen (Hessen), causing damages estimated at around €30,000.

Police said the thieves broke into the site near Grebenstein (Grebenstein) between Tuesday and Saturday last week, cutting through fences and forcibly removing the cables from the solar panels.

Investigators believe several individuals were involved due to the large quantity of stolen cables, and suspect the use of a large vehicle to transport them.

Authorities estimate the damage at no less than €30,000, in addition to high repair costs and a partial power outage. Police have appealed to residents for information that could help solve the case.
