A 24-year-old man died in Hamburg after being violently assaulted by five masked attackers during the night in the Eißendorf district in the south of the city.
According to initial reports, the victim was walking with a 23-year-old friend when the group approached them. The two men separated shortly afterward, and contact with the victim was lost.
The friend later found him lying on the street with severe head injuries. He was taken to hospital but died shortly after despite resuscitation efforts.
Police launched a large-scale search operation with patrol cars and police dogs, but the perpetrators managed to escape. Hamburg police, in coordination with the public prosecutor’s office, have opened a homicide investigation.
