Germany Braces for Prolonged Winter as New Cold Wave Approaches

Publication date: 2026-02-08

Weather forecasts indicate that Germany will continue to experience winter conditions in the coming days, with a new cold wave expected to hit by mid-February.

Meteorologists attribute the shift to a Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) event, which has disrupted the polar vortex and is driving unstable weather patterns across Europe. This is expected to bring snow and freezing temperatures to many regions.

Germany could see up to six snowy days over the next two weeks, with temperatures in southern and eastern areas dropping to between -5°C and -10°C.
