A major police operation took place in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, on Saturday after witnesses reported a man carrying a knife and behaving suspiciously with passersby.
Police units quickly arrived at Mosel Street, where the man was still armed. One officer opened fire, injuring him.
The suspect was taken to hospital, and authorities confirmed his life is not currently in danger.
Security forces sealed off large parts of the city center and redirected traffic while investigations continued. Police appealed to witnesses with information to come forward.
