A routine workday turned into tragedy in Germany when Serkan C., a 36-year-old ticket inspector of Turkish origin, was violently attacked by a 26-year-old Greek passenger traveling without a ticket. The incident occurred on February 2, 2026, aboard a train departing Landstuhl near Kaiserslautern in southwestern Germany.
The assault caused severe head injuries, leaving Serkan in a coma. He died early Wednesday morning in hospital from a brain hemorrhage, leaving behind a wife and two children aged 13 and 11.
According to Bild, the confrontation began when Serkan asked the passenger to leave the train after discovering he had no ticket. The suspect struck him repeatedly. Passengers tried to provide first aid and called police, who arrived ten minutes later.
Police confirmed the suspect is a Greek national with no residence in Germany. He appeared before a judge on February 3, who issued an arrest warrant on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter. The man stated he lives in Luxembourg and has no prior criminal record.
The case sparked outrage and sympathy across Germany. Railway staff and federal police held a minute of silence in honor of the victim.
