Germany has introduced new fees for issuing national ID cards (Personalausweis), effective today. Citizens aged 24 and above must now pay €46, up from the previous €37.

For those under 24, the fee has increased from €22.80 to €27.60.

The German Interior Ministry explained that the rise is due to higher production and labor costs.

According to broadcaster ZDF, the new fees apply immediately to all applications for issuing or renewing ID cards submitted from this date onward.
