A Syrian man attacked his neighbor with a knife while he was asleep in his apartment in Nuremberg. The 38-year-old victim sustained superficial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. in a residential building in the Mögeldorf district. The 29-year-old suspect fled the scene but was apprehended shortly afterward by police patrols nearby.
Initial tests showed the attacker was under the influence of alcohol, with a level exceeding one per mille. Police launched an investigation on suspicion of attempted murder, and prosecutors requested his detention.
During his hearing, the investigating judge ordered the suspect to be placed in a psychiatric facility after preliminary signs of mental health issues were observed. Investigations continue to determine the circumstances and motives behind the attack.
