French Initiative to Support Lebanese Army Amid U.S. Pressure on Arms Control

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot began a visit to Beirut on Friday, meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

Talks in the Lebanese capital focused on logistical and political preparations for the conference France will host on March 5, aimed at supporting the Lebanese army and internal security forces.

Meanwhile, the United States is pressuring Lebanon to ensure that weapons remain solely under state control.
