Germany: Brutal Attack Claims Life of Train Ticket Inspector

A 36-year-old ticket inspector working for Deutsche Bahn died after a violent assault on a Regionalexpress train departing Landstuhl station.

Police reported that the incident occurred Monday evening when the inspector attempted to remove a 26-year-old passenger without a valid ticket. The passenger attacked him viciously.

The inspector suffered severe injuries, was resuscitated at the scene, and taken to hospital where he was placed in an induced coma. He later died from his injuries.

Deutsche Bahn executive Evelyn Palla expressed shock and strong condemnation, stressing that the victim was simply doing his job, and offered condolences to his family and colleagues.

Police arrested the suspect, a Greek national without registered residence in Germany, at the scene. Criminal investigators in Kaiserslautern are pursuing charges of attempted murder.
