German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday evening, where he was welcomed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to Saudi state media, the two leaders held talks, though no details were disclosed. Merz’s tour will also take him to Doha and Abu Dhabi.
The visit aims to strengthen cooperation in energy and defense. Before departing Berlin, Merz emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships with Gulf states, noting that such ties are vital for diversifying Germany’s oil and gas supply and ensuring long-term security.
