Germany’s government has faced repeated internet outages on its official aircraft. Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his team were left without connection during a trip to India two weeks ago, prompting media to describe the journey as a “blind flight.”
The German Defense Ministry announced plans to test a stronger internet service in February and March 2026. The new system promises higher data transfer rates and improved satellite priority to prevent future disruptions.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the goal is to ensure stable connectivity for the chancellor, president, and ministers during official flights, allowing them to follow global developments in real time.
