At the end of 2025, Germany recorded a drop in its population to around 83.5 million people – about 100,000 fewer than in 2024.
The decline is mainly due to reduced net migration and the continued excess of deaths over births.
Births totaled between 640,000 and 660,000, while deaths exceeded one million.
Net migration was between 220,000 and 260,000, at least 40% lower than the previous year.
