The European Commission has initiated legal proceedings against Germany for breaching EU free movement rules.
Germany requires additional visas for non-EU nationals who already hold valid residence and work permits in another EU country and are seconded to Germany by their employers.
EU law allows such workers to be posted to other member states without further formalities.
The Commission argues that Germany’s practice violates EU labor mobility regulations and has demanded corrective measures.
