On Wednesday, the Bundestag commemorated the victims of the Nazi regime with a traditional memorial ceremony, marking 81 years since the liberation of Auschwitz. Polish-American psychotherapist and social worker Tova Friedman, a Holocaust survivor, delivered the keynote address.
Born in 1938 in Gdynia near Danzig, Friedman survived Auschwitz-Birkenau as a child. She is among the few remaining eyewitnesses to the Nazi genocide. Together with her grandson Aron Goodman, she runs a TikTok channel with over 500,000 followers, keeping Holocaust memory alive among younger generations.
The ceremony was attended by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Bundestag President Julia Klöckner. Renowned Jewish pianist Igor Levit provided musical accompaniment with a piece dedicated to the Warsaw Ghetto.
