At the North Sea Summit in Hamburg, coastal nations agreed on a major expansion of offshore wind power. Thousands of new turbines will be built by 2030, creating 91,000 jobs.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated: “The decisions we made here in Hamburg will make our energy supply safer, more cost-effective, and more integrated.”
Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, France, the UK, Ireland, and Luxembourg signed the declaration, aiming to transform the North Sea into the world’s largest clean energy hub.
The plan includes €9.5 billion in new investments, with close cooperation between governments, wind energy companies, and grid operators to reduce Europe’s dependence on other energy sources.
