Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen announced plans to visit Germany and France to rally support against U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempts to gain control over Greenland.
Official schedules showed that Frederiksen and Nielsen met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz today, and will meet French President Emmanuel Macron tomorrow.
Frederiksen’s office said the talks will focus on “the current state of foreign policy and the need for a stronger Europe.” The Élysée Palace added that Macron will use a working lunch to reaffirm European solidarity and France’s support for Denmark and Greenland’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The three leaders will also discuss security challenges in the Arctic and Greenland’s economic and social development, which France and the EU have expressed readiness to support.
