Publication date: 2026-01-15

Germany has deported two refugees convicted of serious sexual crimes. One of them, a 36-year-old Syrian, was flown from Frankfurt Airport directly to Damascus under heavy security after being released from prison.

The second case involved a 36-year-old Afghan, who was deported via Turkey to Kabul.

The German Federal Ministry of the Interior stated that individuals convicted of serious crimes such as rape have no right to remain in the country, emphasizing that public safety is the top priority.

The move sparked controversy in Germany, as deportations to Syria and Afghanistan had been suspended for years due to security concerns. Human rights organizations warned of risks to the deportees, while the government defended the decision as necessary to protect society.
