Electricity returned to southwest Berlin on Wednesday (January 7, 2026) after four days of disruption.
A suspected arson attack on a power station by left-wing extremists had cut off electricity and heating to tens of thousands of households.
This marked the longest blackout in the German capital since World War II.
Berlin’s Mayor Kai Wegner said: “Today is a good day for many affected residents who have been without power and heating since January 3.”
The restoration process, which began at 11 a.m. local time (10 a.m. GMT), was described as complex and gradual.
