Global press: Trump-Netanyahu meeting tied to mediator talks in Miami

Publication date: 2025-12-22

The Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that scheduling a new meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – wanted by the International Criminal Court – remains dependent on the outcome of mediator talks in Miami.

The discussions focus on moving to the second phase of Trump’s plan for Gaza, which includes expanding arrangements for civilians and exploring an alternative governance mechanism for Hamas, with the possibility of international presence in the enclave.

Sources confirmed that the U.S. administration is working to prevent developments that could destabilize Syria and undermine efforts to consolidate the new system in Damascus.

These issues are linked to broader strategic concerns, particularly Iran. The outcome of a Trump-Netanyahu meeting will depend on Netanyahu’s ability to connect the second phase in Gaza with securing U.S. support for Israel’s security positions regarding Syria, Lebanon, and Iran.

Meanwhile, the French outlet Mediapart noted that while the Gaza war has ended, the territory is experiencing another kind of war.

The humanitarian crisis has worsened due to recent storms and heavy rains. Gaza’s winters are usually harsh, but this season is exceptionally severe.

The impact of the storms was felt strongly in Gaza, unlike in Israel just a few kilometers away.

The absence of humanitarian aid has further aggravated the situation, with dozens of aid organizations agreeing that Israel is blocking shipments of essential goods into Gaza.
