A tragic incident occurred at Leipzig prison in Germany when a 24-year-old woman attempted to smuggle methamphetamine (“crystal meth”) to her boyfriend during a visit by hiding it under her tongue in aluminum foil. The plan was to pass the drugs through a kiss.
Her boyfriend, 23-year-old Tunisian inmate Mohammed R., who was in pre-trial detention for drug trafficking, accidentally swallowed the package. An autopsy later revealed that the foil burst in his stomach, releasing the toxic substance.
The prisoner initially showed no severe symptoms but collapsed later and died despite resuscitation attempts. The woman will face trial starting December 18 and could face imprisonment if convicted.
