The German government has announced plans to ban single-use e-cigarettes, following repeated calls from states and environmental groups. The Environment Ministry confirmed that legal preparations are underway. Germany consumes more than 60 million disposable e-cigarettes annually. Their built-in batteries pose a major hazard, causing an estimated 30 fires per day in waste trucks and sorting facilities. Around 80% of these incidents are linked to improperly discarded batteries. The Waste Management Association and the German Environmental Aid have warned of risks to children and young people, as well as safety threats in waste treatment plants.
