Parfümerie Pieper, one of Germany’s largest privately owned perfume chains, filed for insolvency on Friday, putting around 900 jobs at risk. Founded in 1931 in Bochum and now headquartered in Herne, the company operates about 120 branches. A preliminary insolvency procedure under self-administration has been opened, with employee salaries secured for three months. Stores and the online shop will remain open temporarily, hoping for stronger holiday sales to support restructuring. Lawyer Sarah Wolf from the Duisburg-based law firm “Anchor” has been appointed as insolvency trustee, alongside a general representative and restructuring expert. They will work with CEO Oliver Pieper, grandson of the company’s founder, to protect jobs and develop a recovery plan.
