Government data: Only 869 Syrians in Germany actually subject to deportation

Publication date: 2025-11-21

Recent government figures reveal that Berlin’s plans to deport Syrians are far smaller than previously suggested. In response to a parliamentary inquiry by AfD MP Sascha Lienensing, the federal government confirmed that only 869 Syrians nationwide are currently subject to potential deportation. Official statistics show that Germany hosts about 944,060 Syrians, with 10,281 classified as “obliged to leave.” However, the vast majority hold temporary residence under “Duldung” (suspension of deportation), meaning only a small fraction can actually be deported. Lienensing criticized the figures as a “broken election promise” and urged the government to withdraw subsidiary protection more broadly and negotiate directly with Damascus on return conditions.
