TK (Techniker Krankenkasse) is the largest statutory health insurance fund in Germany,

What does TK cover?

1. Basic medical coverage

  • Medical consultations and treatment:
    Includes visits to doctors, inpatient treatment in hospitals, prescription medicines and physiotherapy.

  • Vaccinations:
    Includes travel vaccinations such as for malaria and hepatitis,
    as well as seasonal flu vaccines.

  • Physiotherapy:

  • Alternative medicine:

2. Dental services

  • Dental check-ups:
    Two free dental check-ups per year.

  • Dental treatments:
    Coverage of basic fillings. For patients who keep a regular record of dental check-ups (bonus booklet),
    the coverage for dentures and more complex treatments can be significantly higher.

  • Orthodontics:
    Orthodontic treatment is available for children and adults, depending on the medical indication.

1. TK Bonus programme

  • Points system:
    Members collect points for health-promoting activities, such as:

    • regular dental check-ups

    • participation in sports or prevention courses

    • preventive and early detection screenings

  • Rewards:
    Points can be:

Contributions and costs

  • General contribution rate:
    14.6% of gross income.

  • Additional contribution (Zusatzbeitrag):
    2.45% as of January 2025.

  • Cost sharing:
    Contributions are shared between the employee and the employer according to statutory rules.
