Clemens Schularick, the President of the Institute for World Economy (IfW), has sharply criticized Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. He accused him of focusing investments in the Bundeswehr too heavily on outdated technology. Schularick emphasized the urgent need to develop and procure modern weapon systems instead of continuing to invest in traditional tanks and frigates. This demand comes at a time when Germany's security policy is increasingly on the agenda, and the necessity for innovative military solutions is growing. Therefore, the IfW President calls for a strategic shift in defense policy.
