Germany: €40 Million to Combat Online Disinformation

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Research announced funding for 11 projects using artificial intelligence and deepfake detection technologies to fight online disinformation.

Projects include AI-based fact-checking, tools to detect fake audio and video files, and initiatives to strengthen media literacy among young people. Examples:

  • ClaimGuard: AI dialogue system to scan texts and images for disinformation.

  • PADSE: Detects manipulated audio recordings.

  • PROVAIDE: Makes information sources traceable.

Total funding exceeds €40 million, under the program “Trust in Democracy and the State.”
