German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier warned that democracy in Germany is currently under threat in a way not seen for decades, in an article published by the “Deutschland” media network.
He wrote: “Our way of life, our freedom, and our democracy are today threatened as they have not been for a long time – by democracy’s detractors at home and by major imperial powers abroad.”
The warning coincides with the first celebration of the “Day of Democracy History” from March 18 to 22.
