Germany: Income Gap Between East and West Widens in 2025

Official data from the Federal Statistical Office shows that average household income in western Germany reached €39,500 per year, compared to €33,700 in the east – a gap of €5,800. Although the disparity has narrowed over decades, figures for 2025 indicate the gap widened again after a slight decrease in 2024.
