Germany: Rising Number of American Students and Researchers

 

Germany has seen a sharp increase in applications from American academics. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) reported nearly one-third more applications from the US in 2025, especially for research fellowships. While many scholars traditionally looked to the US, Germany is now becoming a preferred destination. Since summer 2025, the federal government has launched the “1000-Person-Plus” program, investing €600 million over ten years to attract foreign academics.
